"Tis the Season - Do We Really Take the Time to Enjoy Each Other?

Michele Melcher

Here is an illustration that I just did for the December issue of Main Line Today. The article describes how the stress of the holidays - deadlines, shopping, forced-fun holiday work functions, family events etc. can actually make you question whether or not you are really enjoying your time spent together.

I thought a fun take on the story would be to show the "The Family Holiday Dinner", with many of the different personalities that might be in attendance. There are the misbehaving children, disengaged surly teenagers, the wine snob relative who knows everything, the relative who always starts a political rant, the annoyed relative who doesn't want to be there in the first place, the host who is just trying to make everyone happy and good old grandma, just smiling and taking it all in.

Personally, I really do enjoy the holidays. I love seeing friends and getting together with family who live far away. I like the decorations, the parties, the food, giving and (of course!) receiving gifts! I know that there will always be snafus with the whirlwind of activity that can get annoying and understand that some people really do not enjoy the season because of any list of reasons. Anyway, I hope that you all have a good holiday. Or at least fake having a good one. Or maybe just fly off to Anguilla and avoid the whole thing! :)

PS - I was definitely the disengaged surly teenager. Happy Holidays!

Masking Out

October is upon us! Which means Halloween is right around the corner. This illustration for the October issue of Main Line Today is for the article, "Masking Out - How we put on different faces all year long", written by Katie Kohler.  The story talks about the idea of not dressing up for Halloween anymore because people already wear different masks on social media for 365 days of the year in order to get more likes and comments.

NOTE: (Personally, I think I'll still dress up for Halloween until I'm at least 92)

"Access Follywood" - For the July issue of Main Line Today.

Relaxing poolside?

Relaxing poolside?

You know when you just want to relax with your book by the water and sip your lemonade in peace? Well, this illustration is not it. This is for Main Line Today's June "End of the Line" column, written by Katie Kohler . The article is called "Access Follywood" and it's about all of the annoying young "celebrities" at your local pool. The cast of characters include everyone from aquatic quarterbacks, "The Mannings", posing and pouting preteen "Kardashians" , the roughhousing jack-assery of the "Bam Margeras" and everyone else doing everything disruptive in between. As always, special thanks to Cristela for the art direction. Enjoy!

Fly Eagles Fly....

Fly Eagles Fly....

Ever been invited to watch the big game (that you don't really know anything about?) Yup, me too! This spot that I did for the November Issue of Main Line Today shows how many of us really feel while everyone else is hooting and hollering at the TV. The article gives a quick run down of basic to know facts and stats like who is the quarterback, their jersey number, what they do, when they'll play and where is the best place on the Main Line to watch the game.

Many thanks to Cristela at Main Line Today for the art direction!
